La Familia
We are the Martin's! He's Gavin. I'm Tara. Emma is the little one. Charlotte is the squish. They are the light of our life, and the guinea pigs of our bilingual experiment.
Both Gavin and I started learning Spanish in high school. Both of us served missions for our church (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints-you can read more about that here.) speaking Spanish. Gavin served in Fresno, California for 2 years, and I served in Salta, Argentina for 18 months.
When we got pregnant with Emma we decided we wanted to teach her Spanish, too! We speak mostly English to each other, Gavin speaks English to the girls. I speak Spanish to the girls. And when we are all together it is a mixture of both.
The purpose of this website is primarily to hold myself accountable and to motivate myself to continue on this non-native bilingual journey.
If, along the way, it helps to inspire and motivate others to begin or continue their journey in raising bilingual kids, then that would be great, too!
So, ¡bienvenidos! Take a look around. If you have any questions, let me know!
